Self-Portrait, 2004-2006, graphite on paper, 18 x 24 inches

When I look at this one I think of an official photo like a passport picture or some kind of I D.
I started this as merely a technical drawing for Cold Calm. After drawing grid lines and transferring the image to canvas I put it aside for about 2 years. Recently I picked it up again and saw further possibilities in the drawing so I worked it up some more. Having worked on it at two different times and with different intensions the drawing came out with an intriguing duality. What interests me most about it is its apparent mixture of cool detachment and stark intimacy.
